Having proven to be a very successful addition to the bi-ennial IRRIGATION AUSTRALIA Exhibition programme since 2004, the Half-Day Workshops will be continued and again be a major element of the IRRIGATION AUSTRALIA 2010 Exhibition programme.
The half-day workshops provide the end-uses attending, the opportunity to take part in very topical hands-on workshops, taking away with them practical tips and advice important for their business.
The 2010 Workshop schedule and topics are as follows:
TUESDAY:
Workshop title: The New Era of Irrigation Metering - What does it mean for you?
Time: Tuesday 8 June, 10.00am - 12 noon
Aim: To inform, enthuse and skill irrigators, consultants and advisers in the Sydney basin and near regions (Hunter Valley, etc) on the new national requirements for metering.
Outline: New standards for on-farm metering installations are being implemented in all states and territories. This workshop will expalin the standards and their implications for irrigators, detail how they will be applied, outline the role of accredited certifiers and the function of state and territory agencies, and describe the collection and use of water information by the Bureau of Meteorolgy.
Target audience: Irrigators, consultants, advisers.
Workshop title: What's Your Dam Water Worth?
Time: Tuesday 8 June, 1.00pm - 3.00pm
Aim: To provide information on the latest research and products available to improve management of farm dams used for irrigation.
Outline: This workshop will help people to estimate the value of dam water by considering methods and costs to improve management of seepage, evaporation, leakage and opportunities for aquaculture.
Target audience: Irrigators, consultants, advisers, water authorities.
WEDNESDAY:
Workshop Title: Getting the best playing surface possible
Time: Wednesday 9 June, 10.00am - 12 noon
Co-ordinated by Sydney Water
Aim: To make participants aware of the Best Practise Guidelines for Open Space Turf and its associated online tools.
Outline: The two authors of the Guidelines, Dr Mick Battam and Mr Geoff Hatton will provide an overview of the Guidelines; demonstrate how to use the practical tools (online calculators) for assessing the carrying capacity and watering requirements of open space turf areas; and provide practical examples on how renovation practises can be used to improve turf quality and achieve water savings. The workshop will also provide tips on how to conduct an open space audit.
Target audience: Open space managers, council GMs, consultants and irrigation advisors.
Workshop title: Alternative water sources for irrigating sports fields and parks
Time: Wednesday 9 June, 1.00pm - 3.00pm
Aim: To discuss practical challenges, lessons and solutions resulting from real examples of irrigating public open space with alternative water sources.
Outline: Presentations by professionals that have been involved in planning and delivering such projects will examine the technical, policy and legal issues associated with the use of alternative water sources for irrigation; outline practical lessons in irrigating with alternative water sources; and explore future opportunities for the use of alternative water sources.
Target audience: Open space managers, including council engineers and consultants.
