PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The purpose of the PD&TC is to assist IAL facilitate and provide quality irrigation training, qualifications and Certification services to the irrigation industry. To achieve these objectives the PD&TC undertakes a regular review of industry training needs including identification of existing training and qualification gaps and assesses the adequacy of existing training to support IAL’s Certification program.
PETER HAYES | Chair
Peter has 30+ years of experience in the wine industry serving many Executive, Managerial, Educational and Research roles across the public and private sector. Peter is currently an independent wine industry strategies and advisor for projects in Australia, India, and the UK. Peter is also Deputy Chancellor of Charles Sturt University and serves in several other roles. Peter holds many qualifications including a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne, Diploma of Education from Monash University, Bachelor of Applied Wine Science from Riverina College (now CSU), and a Masters in Horticulture from UC Davis.
Phil Best has had over 27 years’ experience in sales, sales management and category (buying) management in the irrigation and agricultural merchandise market.For the past 10 years Phil has been employed as an Operations Manager for Think Water and prior to this role he had agribusiness positions with Total Eden, CRT and Pivot. Phil is passionate about Irrigation Training and has had a senior role in the annual Think Water Training School developing course content and brings considerable industry experience to the Professional Development Committee.
Simon's Water experience in Irrigation extends over 47 years. He has worked in all aspects of the Irrigation Industry including Design, Planning & Project Management and has successfully developed a solid clientele with a strong network of industry associates. He has extensive experience in Technical Sales and over 20 years experience managing his own company. Simon has worked for several Irrigation companies in a management capacity, working in Irrigation regions within NSW and Queensland. His expertise covers both Urban and Agricultural Irrigation.
Simon is the General Manager of Irrigear Stores, a large network of independently owned irrigation specialists across Australia. Simon has been with Irrigear since 2007 firstly as Business Finance Manager and then General Manager since 2010. Simon brings to the Professional Development Committee considerable experience and a passion for an improvement in Irrigation training and increased standards for irrigation professionals.
David has more than 30+ years of experience in the irrigation industry working on a variety of commercial irrigation design projects. David is currently the Sales Manager for NaanDan Jain, Indonesia and Malaysia. He also holds a Bachelor of Applies Science from Victoria Collage. David is a Certified Irrigation Designer and a member of IAL Professional Development Committee with a vision to raise the bar of irrigation design projects through the use of professional development programs for all industry colleagues
Geoff joined Irrigation Australia in 2016 as National Training and Marketing Manager after spending 22 years in the water industry. Before his role with IAL, Geoff had a long career with Davey Water Products in which he has held many senior management positions across sales and marketing. Throughout his career, Geoff has also held many other senior roles with Tubemakers / Tyco Water, and Southern Cross Pumps and Irrigation. Geoff's responsibilities include the development and delivery of training programs for the irrigation industry.
